The purpose of BGP SERVER is to give a set of on-line looking-glasses
available for performing a traceroute to the target specified by the
user. The sources are order by the amount of extra information they
provide so that you are allowed to get the maximum information with the
minimum number of traceroute queries.
It's possible makes three different queries to BGP SERVER:
1. Request of the Autonomous System to which an IP address or prefix belongs.
You specify an IP address or a prefix and BGP SERVER returns the number
of the Autonomous System the IP address or prefix belongs to.
2. Request of the known AS-paths for an ip address or a prefix.
2.a) You specify an IP address or a prefix and BGP SERVER returns a
table where each row rappresents an AS-paths from an on-line looking
glass to the AS that contains the specified IP address or prefix.
2.b) You specify an IP address or a prefix and BGP SERVER returns a
graphic visualization of all the known AS-paths leading from an on-line
looking glass to the AS containing that address or prefix. (For this
kind of output the graphic engine of
BGPlay is used).
3. Request of the data sources that know (received at least one announcement for) an IP address or a prefix.
You specify an IP address or a prefix and BGP SERVER returns a list of
looking glasses that know about it, ordered by the amount of extra
information they give.
